Savuti Camp

Named after the river that it sits beside, Savuti Camp lies in the remote Linyanti from which the Savuti Channel emerges and spills into the Savuti Marsh.

Named after the river that it sits beside, Savuti Camp lies in the remote Linyanti Concession from which the Savuti Channel emerges and eventually spills into the Savuti Marsh some 30 kilometres away. Dry for nearly 30 years, the Savuti Channel now flows all year, attracting great numbers of animals during Botswana’s long and increasingly arid winter – the result is a wildlife paradise.

A private concession setting enables Savuti Camp to offer activities not permitted in the Savuti area of the Chobe National Park. Night drives augment morning and afternoon drives; guided walks are offered along with boating and fishing when water levels allow. Savuti Camp also has an elevated hide located away for camp – perfect for wildlife photographers and bird watchers, and it can also function as a sleeping venue for a night out in Savuti!

Savuti Camp’s seven tented chalets lie along the Savuti Channel and offer armchair game viewing from the comfort of their private deck. One of the tents is a four-sleeper family unit, which along with children’s meals on request makes Savuti Camp one of the most family-friendly in the Savuti region. Savuti Camp is best visited during Botswana’s long dry winter when elephant numbers increase dramatically; bird watchers will want to visit in summer when this IBA (Important Birding Area) lives up to its reputation as a birding paradise.

Lodge Highlights:

  • Private setting on the Savuti Channel
  • Fantastic game viewing & birding
  • Game drives, guided walks & seasonal boating
  • Four-sleeper family tent & kids’ meals available

About Savuti Camp

Luxury Tents

  • Elevated Position & River Views
  • Private Deck
  • En Suite Bathroom & Outdoor Shower
  • Four-sleeper Family Tent

Each of Savuti Camp’s seven tented chalets sits on the banks of the Savuti Channel and enjoys broad views from the easy chairs on its viewing deck. Inside, a netted four-poster bed takes centre stage and an en suite bathroom offers comfort and convenience. One of the chalets is a four-sleeper family unit – a master bedroom plus an adjoining bedroom with two single beds – while another option is to overnight in the camp’s hide, set away from camp and transformed into a lamp-lit haven for adventurous travellers!

Camp Facilities

  • Swimming Pool & Sun Loungers
  • Dining Area, Lounge & Bar
  • Curio Shop & Library
  • Photography Hide

The camp’s main dining area and lounge are raised off the ground and afford grand views over the Savuti Channel and its surrounding grasslands. Guests can make use of the reference library and curio shop as well as the swimming pool, complete with sun loungers and views of the river. After a round of evening drinks next to the fire, dinner is served in the elegant dining area or under the stars on the viewing deck. Set away from camp, a photography hide completes the range of facilities, and thanks to its bedrolls and mosquito nets, it can be turned into an overnight option for an unforgettable experience.

Activities at Savuti Camp

  • Morning & Afternoon Game Drives
  • Night Drives & Guided Walks
  • Boating & Fishing In Season
  • Bird Watching

A setting in the private Linyanti Concession enables Savuti Camp to offer a more comprehensive safari experience than camps located in the Savuti area of the Chobe National Park. Morning and afternoon game drives are standard but spot-lit night drives and guided walks with expert trackers add to the experience. When water levels in the Linyanti wetlands are high enough, boating and fishing excursions are offered, an extra twist to a Savuti safari.

Linyanti is good for big cats (lions and leopards in particular) and has a name as a haven for the highly endangered wild dog. The late dry season (August to October) is especially rewarding as huge herds of thirsty buffalo and elephant arrive. And as an IBA (Important Bird Area), the Linyanti has an international reputation for bird watching and rarely disappoints. There is a great mix of species and raptors are especially noticeable, while the summer bird watching ranks among the best in Southern Africa.

Karina was absolutely instrumental to our safari success.

Our experience with Safari Online was excellent. After becoming very frustrated trying to search for a safari destination on our own, we turned to Karina for help and she was a lifesaver. She responded to our requests promptly and gave us several options with links to each option; we ultimately chose Lukimbi. She then coordinated our flights to and from the property, arranged the drivers necessary to get us from the airport to the lodge and back again, and sent the appropriate paperwork to each of us to verify each step of the process. We had an amazing safari adventure at the lodge–the experience of a lifetime–and are so grateful for her help. We literally couldn’t have done it without her!

Excellent service and support for our Africa vacation

Working with Walter was a great experience. He listened to us and helped us build a vacation that exceeded all of our expectations. We really appreciated his professionalism and attention to detail.

Perfect

We are six older but experienced travellers who usually do our own planning. Luck led us to Safari Online and Walter. His ideas proved spot on. Throughout our planning Safari Online have been helpful, always answering emailed questions, no matter how basic, straightaway. We’ve had probably our best ever holiday in years of travel, everything went smoothly. Pickups and transfers were on time. Staff in all the places we stayed were friendly and helpful. I can’t think of one adverse remark except maybe seeing a lion that wasn’t asleep, though I think if it could have been arranged Walter would have done so.

A great tour operator that was a pleasure to deal with.

We used Safari Online to put together a mid-range Botswana trip for a group of four going to three different camps and then onto Vic Falls. We asked several operators to provide options (through this great safari bookings website) and Walter Kohrs from Safari Online was easily the most responsive and quickest to provide different but realistic options and at good prices. In the end it was a no brainer to go with Safari Online. Walter always responded to my queries quickly, with honest and valuable responses that were clear and made sense. From our perspective he tailored a good mix of places for both our budget and standard of facilities that suited us perfectly, with enough information and links to help us make our decisions. In the end each camp was different and had different aspects and strengths that made each unique. We loved it.
