About Camp Okavango
The Luxury Tents
- Spacious Walk-in Tents
- Private Viewing Deck
- En Suite Bathroom
- Honeymoon Cottage Available
Camp Okavango’s 12 East Africa-style tented suites are each set under a shady tree and, thanks to their private wooden decks, have wonderful views over permanent wetlands. The suites are raised off the ground and have their own bathroom. Solid wooden furniture and quality furnishings lend a homely feel to each tent, and the glass sliding door makes for easy access to the viewing deck. For the ultimate in exclusivity, the Okavango Suite is a safari-chic thatched cottage which offers honeymooners and couples an extra layer of privacy and indulgence.
Camp Facilities
- Lounge
- Bar
- Secluded Bird Hide
- Swimming Pool
- Sundeck
- Wildlife Reference Library
Camp Okavango’s lounge and bar are part of the main building, a grand thatch and timber affair but the main restaurant flows out onto a shady patio where breakfasts and lunches are served on fine days. Dinners are an elegant silver-service affair at the lodge or in the privacy of your own suite. The camp’s swimming pool offers relief on a hot Okavango afternoon – perhaps pick a book from the library and retire to a sun lounger. Guests can also make use of the camp’s bird hide – and with some 400 recorded species in the area, chances are they will have their hands full.
Activities at Camp Okavango
- Game Viewing by Motor Boat
- Mokoro (Canoe) Safaris
- Guided Walks
- Fishing Trips
Being situated in permanent wetlands means Camp Okavango offers water-based game viewing. Much like their 4X4 equivalents, the camp’s expertly piloted motor boats head off in the morning and afternoon to patrol quiet backwaters and open lagoons for a diverse range of animals. Hippos and crocodiles are often seen, as are elephants as they move between islands. The bird life is spectacular and best experienced on a guided walk when you’ll be on the lookout for delta specials like Pel’s Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret and Pygmy Goose. Game viewing and photography continues at a slower pace on a mokoro adventure, when you explore by canoe, your local guide steering you deftly through the maze of lily flowers and nodding heads of papyrus. Fishing trips for bream and tiger fish complete the picture.
