Days 1 - 2: The vast Makgadikgadi Park
After arriving at Maun Airport in Botswana, you’ll transfer to a shared charter flight to the Kalahari. Your destination is Lerro La Tau – Footprint of the Lion – on the edge of the enigmatic Makgadikgadi Park. This elegant lodge sits above the Boteti River, allowing for great game viewing from the comfort of its viewing decks. Professional guides open up the secrets of the Kalahari on game drives and interpretive walks. Between November and May, large herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra pass through the area, attracting predators. Night drives and bird watching complete the picture.
Days 3 - 4: From Desert to Delta
Flying from Leroo La Tau, you’ll soon see the expanse of the Okavango Delta opening up below you. At the heart of the Kalahari, the world’s largest inland delta is a wildlife paradise. You touch down in the Moremi Game Reserve and enjoy a game drive to Xakanaxa Camp. Set in a rewarding corner of Moremi, Xakanaxa’s luxurious tented suites sit under giant trees and overlook a hippo-filled lagoon. Game drives with experienced guides showcase the area’s wildlife. Elephant, buffalo and giraffe are among the heavyweight sightings and Xakanaxa has a name for leopard and wild dog. The bird watching is excellent all year round.
Days 5 - 6: Savute – Land of Giants
The wild heart of the Chobe National Park, Savute has a reputation for its super-sized sightings. Enormous bull elephants are among the signature sightings along with Savute’s large lion and hyena populations, locked in an eternal conflict. Giant baobab trees stud the landscape; eagles and vultures patrol the sky, and in summer great herds of migrating zebra arrive. Enjoy it all from the comfort of Savute Safari Lodge, its chalets set on the flowing Savute Channel. Here you’ll enjoy armchair game viewing and gourmet meals under the stars.
Day 7: The Smoke that Thunders – Victoria Falls
A short flight to Kasane is followed by a road transfer across the nearby border and into Zimbabwe. It’s then an hour’s drive to Victoria Falls and Ilala Lodge, a popular and friendly hotel at the centre of town. A 10-minute walk from Ilala will take you to the falls and the hotel is conveniently located near markets and shops if you want to stock up on souvenirs. If you have time, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River makes a great end to the safari.
Day 8: The Journey Ends
An overland transfer to Victoria Falls Airport ends this safari but if you want to extend your time at Africa’s adventure capital then simply let us know. Add on a few more days at Victoria Falls and enjoy activities ranging from whitewater rafting and elephant-back safaris to canoe trips and scenic flights. Other popular activities include walking with lions and picnic trips to Livingstone Island, perched right at the edge of the thundering falls.
