Machaba Camp

Set under giant trees along the Khwai River and overlooking the Moremi Game Reserve, Machaba Camp can boast prime position in an area world-famous for its wildlife.

Set under giant trees along the Khwai River and overlooking the Moremi Game Reserve, Machaba Camp can boast prime position in an area world-famous for its wildlife. This is where the waters of the Okavango Delta finally ebb away leaving behind lush grazing and permanent water, attracting great numbers of animals and birds in a wild diversity of species. Not for nothing is Machaba named after the sycamore tree – in Setswana it means the tree of life.

A newly-built camp, Machaba nevertheless has the easy grace and calm elegance of a long standing establishment. With only 10 tented suites available, the camp promises an intimate and exclusive experience but is as comfortable accommodating honeymooners and couples as it is families. Machaba has two family four-sleeper units available and a swimming pool, and runs on a very green basis, relying mostly on solar power and removing all its non-organic waste.

Focussing on 4X4 game drives, Machaba Camp makes an excellent combination with water-based camps in the Okavango Delta. The area has a reputation for elephants, large herds of antelope such as impala and lechwe plus plenty of predators. Lions are common in the area but leopard, wild dog and cheetah are seen regularly and the bird watching is sensational, especially during the summer months.

Lodge Highlights:

  • Excellent year-round game viewing
