Xigera Camp

Xigera Camp Overview

One of the Okavango Delta’s longest established camps, Xigera sits on the appropriately named Paradise Island. Lying at the heart of the permanent wetlands, this classic tented camp assures its guests access to water all year round. You’ll enjoy excursions in a mokoro, a traditional canoe, as well as by motor boat. And when water levels are low enough, 4X4 game drives add to the excitement.

The camp itself is unpretentious and contagiously friendly. Surrounded by lush riverside vegetation, Xigera echoes with bird song and it is a nature lover’s dream as well as an ideal honeymoon destination. Its 10 tented suites have heartbreaking views of the Okavango and include a four-sleeper family unit.

Accessed only by air, Xigera is a water camp with the focus on experiencing the magical details of the delta. It’s also a great birding camp but big game sightings are not as common here as elsewhere. We recommend combining Xigera Camp with a land-based camp in the Okavango Delta or Moremi Game Reserve to enjoy a well-rounded wildlife experience. This is especially relevant for the April to August flood season when all activities are conducted from the water – ask us for more details.

Activities at Xigera Camp

  • Motor Boat & Canoe Safaris
  • Game Drives in Low Water Season
  • Full-Day Boat Safaris
  • Bird Watching
Xigera Camp is the ideal destination for travellers who want a pure, water-based delta experience. Although big game such as elephants and hippos are very much part of the landscape, Xigera offers the chance to discover the smaller details of the delta – kingfishers, frogs, fishing-owls and rare antelope. You’ll be led deep into the Okavango by expert local guides, using motor boats and traditional canoes to access shimmering floodplains and deep lagoons. It’s also a camp highly recommended for bird watchers.

Game drives are possible as long as water levels allow: low water (September to March) means more game drives; high water (usually April and August) means more boating. And when water levels are high enough, Xigera offers exciting full-day boat trips to Chief’s Island, home to much of the delta’s big game.
