Leroo La Tau

With a name that translates as ‘Footprint of the Lion’, you’d expect Leroo La Tau to offer a classic big game experience. And with its unique riverside position next to the golden grasslands of the Makgadikgadi Pans, this lodge delivers to order.

Dry for decades, the Boteti River has been flowing since 2009 and it is on the banks of this mysterious Kalahari river that Leroo La Tau sits. Zebra and wildebeest are drawn to its water during their seasonal migration, and the river is staked out by local lion prides. To the east, great swathes of savannah support a world of grazing antelope and their predators – cheetahs and wild dogs. The Kalahari is also a place to see smaller animals such as porcupines, meerkats and jackals as well as rare brown hyenas and leopards.

Leroo La Tau accommodates a maximum of 24 guests in its 12 thatched chalets, each with a private deck with views of the Boteti River and its animals. Relaxed and informal, this Kalahari lodge makes an excellent combination with an Okavango Delta camp.
