Zambezi Queen

Moored on the Chobe River, its decks looking out over floodplains teeming with wildlife, the Zambezi Queen offers one-of-a-kind luxury at the heart of elephant country. Offering boutique hotel sophistication, this modern, smooth-lined house boat has just 14 suites and is ideal for a honeymoon or special occasion.

From their balcony, guests watch animals at the river’s edge or explore the river on small boats, piloted by expert local guides. The Chobe River is a classic dry-season destination and game viewing from May to October is exceptional. Large herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodlands, shadowed by lions. Grazing antelope attract other predators and the river is full of hippo and crocodile.

Inside the Zambezi Queen, crisp linen and minimalist, African-chic décor stand out. There are luxuries such as a swimming pool and library plus internet facilities. Fine dining is enjoyed in a convivial, elegant dining room and the night skies are often magnificent, best viewed from the top-deck bar.

Friends told us we had to build our trip around a safari cruise on the Zambezi Queen. They were right. There is nothing like it–looking out your window and seeing the animal life; the twice a day excursions; plus outstanding food and drink. The crew? Unbelievably helpful and well informed. We were delayed arriving into Livingstone and by the time we made it to the departure point, the boat had sailed. We were more than concerned. But when we arrived at the passport control point, they had left a member of the boat crew and a motor launch to wait for us–and then he got us to Namibian immigration, which stayed open for us, and then said “Now we wiil catch up with the boat”. And we did. As we tied up to the boat in motion, the crew told us not to worry about our bags, took us right on board and up to the lounge where drinks and a “snack” (three tiers of goodies) was waiting for us. It only got better from then on!

One of the best experiences of our life. We have spent 4 nights on the luxurious cruiser providing for 14 couples. We opted for a queen suite right in front with a little balcony. Super king size comfy bed, great linen, but they can improve on the pillows. The staff including, Josephine, Chris, Lennox, Eunice, Lennon (a great guide on the small boat trips) made the experience even better. The food was outstanding, the sailing great, the sunset cruises out of this world, the hospitality better than one can expect, the scenery and ambiance the best Africa can offer. We made super new friends from the USA, Canada and RSA. The elephants, hippos, crocs, buffalo, antelope and fish eagles in their natural environment is so special. This is a fairly expensive experience but a must on your bucket list to experience Africa at its best. Keep up the good work team Zambezi Queen ! Unfortunately Kasane Airport (under construction) is really a bad experience compared to all the other great stuff.
